Topic: Open NDR and the Great Pendulum

Topic Summary: NDR is a new product category with an unexpectedly rich history. In this talk, Greg Bell will trace the open source heritage of NDR, explain its growing prominence in the ‘SOC triad’ (especially as more and more Internet hosts are unmanaged), and make the case for community solutions to network defense.

Speaker: Gregory Bell

Bio: Before joining Corelight, Greg served in a series of leadership roles at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory: Director of the Scientific Networking Division, Director of the US Department of Energy's high performance mission network ESnet, and Chief Technology Architect in the Office of the CIO. As ESnet Director, Greg oversaw deployment of the world's first 100G network at continental scale, the world's first 400G production link, and many other networking and systems innovations in support of data-intensive science. Greg also serves on the board of CENIC, the high-performance public network interconnecting 20 million Californians (including the vast majority of K-20 students) and vital public-serving institutions. Greg has a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, and an A.B. from Harvard.

Risk Management vs Vulnerability Management

Discussion Summary:
Security threat landscapes are ever changing as we try to protect critical data assets in our diverse environments. Performing risk assessments, vulnerability assessments, and implementing risk/vulnerability management programs will help to effectively manage cybersecurity vulnerabilities throughout their lifecycles. Risk assessment results identify the actual risk that could be realized due to the existence or exploitation of a specific threat/vulnerability and drive risk based decisions. Both risk and vulnerability management are essential components to understanding threats to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical data assets.

“SIEMple Steps to Detect, Investigate Advanced Unknown Threats, and Respond"

Topic Summary:
With limited budgets, resources, and various tools, many security teams struggle to detect even basic threats and attacks. Statistics show nearly half of all breach victims have zero visibility they've been attacked, with the average breach to detect time around 196 days, or until they have been notified by an outside party. During this session and product demonstration, we'll share common challenges security teams experience and provide you with how to detect, investigate advanced unknown threats, and quickly respond using cyber kill chain.

The topics of this presentation include:

  • Uncover potential threats in your environment with real-time insight into indicators of compromise (IOS) and malicious host
  • Point and click search for efficient threat hunting
  • Incorporating automation and orchestration into your SOC to make your cybersecurity and incident response team more productive
  • How to collect and secure data storage without volume-based pricing
  • Enhance your cloud security with extended controls

Speaker:  Jesse Langdon
Jesse Langdon is a Sales Engineer at Exabeam. Jesse is an experienced (22 + years) logical security and engineer professional with a demonstrated history of working in the information technology and services industry.

Modernizing Hybrid IT

Topic Summary:
Enterprise cloud adoption is rapidly reshaping IT strategy for most organizations. But investments made in legacy and on-premises infrastructure---and the complexity of migrating them to the cloud---mean hybrid IT models will exist for a while.

Igor Sorkin, is a 25 year Kansas City Information Technology professional with background across Telecom, Fin-Tech and Security Technology companies focusing on Software Development, Enterprise Architecture, Security and Identity and Access Management. Since 2019, a member of Okta’s Enterprise Solutions team, Igor is helping companies in the Great Planes region to visual and architect Okta’s technology to achieve a variety of Workforce and Customer Identity needs.

Join us as an identity expert from Okta discusses how organizations should approach hybrid IT and securely adopt cloud infrastructure to increase IT agility and decrease cost, even when faced with complex legacy infrastructure and ineffective workflows. You will also learn how the Okta Identity Cloud offers seamless and secure access to all company resources from any device, a centralized view of every user, and automated workflows that reduce errors and increase user productivity.
