June 2021 Chapter Meeting Web

Posted by Administrator Monday, May 24, 2021

Please join ISSA KC chapter members and other security professionals for a virtual meeting on June 24th, 2021.

Topic: Securing customer identity in an uncertain world

Summary: In today’s uncertain world, organizations must find ways to ensure their customers can engage with their services at any time, from any device, in a secure and safe manner.  That is where customer identity and access management comes in or “CIAM”. A CIAM solution must not only meet today’s security and compliance standards, but also create frictionless customer experiences to meet customers where they are and in the ways they need.  Join our sessions as we discuss CIAM in more detail, how priorities have shifted this year and what CIAM maturity looks like.

Speaker: Vann Orton - Regional Principal Solutions Engineer at Okta

Vann Orton, is a 22 year IT professional with a background in software development, data center operations at scale, automation, security and identity. Vann has been with Okta since 2015 on the Enterprise and Named Solution Engineering teams. ISSA KC May 6th Chapter Meeting

Posted by NB Thursday, April 22, 2021

ISSA Chapter Meeting @ SecureWorld

Date May 6th 2021

Time  8:15 am - 9:00 am

Topic: Aligning with the Business: Where Are We Going Wrong?

Many in our profession now operate under a “business enablement” mindset. We recognize the fact that we must align security efforts with the needs of the business, or we will continue towards becoming irrelevant. But what does “aligning with the business” really mean? Some believe we may be misunderstanding this concept and applying it incorrectly within our organizations.

Attend this panel discussion with the ISSA International leadership for an honest and possibly controversial take on aligning security with the business.

Panelist: Candy Alexander, ISSA Int’l President & Jimmy Sanders, VP of Information Security, Netflix DVD

Moderated by: Naeem Babri, ISSA KC Chapter President

Topic: Red Team Workshop by Vectra

Date: February 16, 2021, 10:00 am - 1:30 pm MT; 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm ET
Join this Red Team Workshop, an educational lab where individuals can better understand the skills and tactics of the adversary. Participants will learn about critical attack vectors and how attackers plot, ploy and work their way into enterprise vulnerabilities. Participants will then take training wheels off for an open play as a “Red Team” attacker. Attendees will reconvene for a working session, walking through the live attacks from the morning and how blue teams, or the threat hunters, actually identify, detect and respond to advanced threats.

Note: Receive 3.5 CPE credits and a digital certificate upon completion.
The deadline to register is February 9th and is open to the first 30 participants.

January 2021 Chapter Meeting - Web

Posted by Administrator Thursday, January 7, 2021

Please join ISSA KC chapter members and other security professionals for a virtual meeting on January 28th, 2020.

Topic:   O365 Security

Topic Summary:
We'll navigate through uncharted security territory by analyzing the attack lifecycle in the cloud and dissecting a real-world attack. The same technology that makes the cloud dynamic can have the opposite effect on an organization’s ability to implement detection and response in cloud environments. This includes the adding additional layer of preventative controls in addition to MFA, because it's increasingly being bypassed in O365 as an example. Jason Stepp, Security Engineer with Vectra, will help us navigate through the uncharted security territory by analyzing the attack lifecycle in the cloud, reviewing the top cloud security threats, and dissecting a real-world cloud attack. Additionally, he'll provide key takeaways for managing access, detection and response, and security operations.

  Jason Stepp, Vectra
Jason Stepp  brings 20 years of security operations and engineering experience into his current role at Vectra. Jason’s background includes leading and managing the enterprise security in the Higher Education, health care, educational, and government environments.
